* Sri Lanka charges Carter and Tutu with making biased statements
Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 15:25 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka today slammed former United States President Jimmy Carter and Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu for making "irresponsible and biased" statements about the country's human rights situation.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Human Rights Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said that the former US President did not check Sri Lanka’s angle before making his comments.

A few days ago, President Carter and two other Nobel laureates called on the United Nations to reject Sri Lanka's candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council, the UN's leading human rights body.
