May 18, Colombo: Death toll of the Friday's suicide bomb blast in Sri Lankan capital has risen to 13 as another civilian succumbed to the injuries this morning.
The civilian who was a three-wheeler driver in profession died while undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
According to the hospital sources 9 police officers and 4 civilians were killed in this incident so far. Among the 37 victims who are in the National Hospital, 25 are police officers and 5 are army personnel. Five of the victims are in the intensive care unit, the sources further said.
A suspected Tamil Tiger suicide bomber attacked a bus carrying police personnel of the riots squad on the Lotus road, in Colombo’s high security zone on Friday (16). Police personnel were awaiting a protest march organized by Sri Lanka’s main opposition, the United National Party (UNP), against the results of the recently concluded Eastern Provincial Council election when the explosion took place.
