Thursday, May 1, 2008, 4:55 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 01, Colombo: Two Sri Lanka police Special Task Force (STF) officers were killed in a suspected LTTE claymore attack this morning at Kebithigollawa in Anuradhpura, about 250 km (156 miles) northeast of Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, the military said.

Defense sources said the STF commandos engaged in a routine clearing patrol early morning were targeted by the Tamil Tiger rebels in the claymore explosion. However, other STF personnel have immediately retaliated killing two Tigers.

STF personnel have been deployed in the area to provide security to the villagers in the area.
