May 01, Colombo: Former minister and Mayor of Colombo, Sirisena Cooray has filed a court case against present deputy mayor of Colombo, S. Rajendran demanding 10 million rupees for breaching a contract.
According to Mr. Cooray, once the United National Party’s nominations for the last municipal council polls had been rejected, the party came to an agreement with an independent group contested under the spectacles sign.
The agreement was to offer UNP’s support to the independent group and after winning the election the group members have to resign and hand over the power to the UNP members. However, the arrangement failed as the independent group members refused to resign.
