* Sri Lanka President arrives in London to address the Oxford Union

May 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in London yesterday (12) on an invitation from the Oxford Union and the Sri Lanka Society of Oxford University. President is due to address the Oxford Union this evening.

The President was ceremoniously welcomed by the members of the London branch of Sri Lanka Freedom Party yesterday. Minister of Enterprise Development, Professor G L Peiris accompanied the President.

President Rajapaksa will be the first Sri Lankan Head of State and Sri Lankan statesman who has not previously held office in the Oxford Union to address it as a guest speaker. Former Foreign Minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar was the last distinguished Sri Lankan to address the Union.

President's address to the Union will be on 'Strategy towards empowering the rural economy in Sri Lanka'.
