* Sri Lanka Polls: UFPA takes Batticaloa, UNP takes Trincomalee

May 11, Colombo: The ruling party United People's Freedom Alliance (UFPA) won Batticaloa securing 6 seats against the 4 by the main opposition United National Party (UNP) and 1 by the Tamizh Democratic National Alliance (TDNA).

In Batticaloa district UFPA won the Kalkudah electorate with 66.81% votes and Padiruppu with 42.89% votes while the UNP came in second. Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) received a majority of IDP votes in the district while UFPA got a majority of postal votes (51.72%).

UNP declared victory in the Trincomalee District winning 5 seats against 4 by the UPFA and 1 by the JVP.

UFPA won the Seruwila electorate in Trincomalee District with 61.47% of votes while UNP was victorious in the Mutur electorate with 59.08% of votes. UFPA received 62.17% of postal votes and UNP secured 85.30% of IDP votes.

In Ampara district UFPA won the Pottuvil seat with 58.6% votes and UNP won Kalmunai with 66.5% of votes. UFPA has received 55.2% of the postal votes in Ampara district. Ampara and Sammanturai results are yet to be released.
