* UNP accuses Sri Lanka Marxists of using schoolchildren for their functions
Thursday, March 27, 2008, 4:44 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 27, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) said the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is now a politically bankrupt party and charged that it uses schoolchildren in uniform for their party activities.

“The President and the Education Minister must act immediately against the JVP’s action to use schoolchildren for their party functions,” UNP MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara told media.

He also said it clearly shows that the JVP has become politically bankrupt. He said that involving schoolchildren in political functions should be banned forthwith.
