Mar 26, Colombo: The Election Department yesterday announced that nominations for the Eastern Provincial Council elections will be received from tomorrow till April 3.

A spokesman for the Elections Commissioner’s office said that 35 members are to be elected for the three districts in the Eastern Provincial Council. Returning officers of each district will accept nominations up to 12.00 noon on April 3 from registered political parties and independent groups, he said.

There are 985,721 eligible voters in the Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts. The polls will be held on May 10.

Defence Spokesman, Minister Keheliya Rabbukwella yesterday said the Election Commissioner's Department is all set for the polls and all steps have been taken to assure a fair and free election.
