Mar 26, Colombo: An agreement has been signed to implement a development plan for the Kotte town today at the Kotte Urban Council, the government said.
The development plan has been designed considering changing needs including expected population increase over the 20 years. Accordingly, Kotte, Nugegoda and Rajagiriya will be developed as commercial hubs.
Also under the plan, there are other measures such as the Green Town Development Plan, securing places with historical value and development of the road structure and the area surrounding the Parliament complex.
Minister of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development, Dinesh Gunawardena speaking at the occasion said steps should be taken to shift the Welikada Prison to some other area and to develop the town giving much significance to the development of the places of historic value in Kotte.
He also stated that within the next decade, Kaduwela and Battaramulla will see huge development.
