* Update: Two Police personnel killed in LTTE claymore blast in eastern Sri Lanka

Mar 26, Colombo: Two police personnel were killed and four others suffered injuries when LTTE Tigers detonated a claymore mine in Batticaloa this morning, while 22 Tiger rebels were killed in yesterday's battles, the Defense Ministry said.

According to the defence sources in the area, the explosion targeted a joint police and Special Task Force (STF) foot patrol along the Valakalai- Thandiadi road around 9.a.m. today.

The injured have been admitted to Batticaloa general hospital. A search operation is in progress, the sources added.

Meanwhile fierce fighting in the northern battlefronts killed 22 Tiger rebels and wounded many more, the military said.
