Tuesday, March 25, 2008, 13:51 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 25, Kelaniya: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the steel flyover built over the Kelaniya rail crossing on the Colombo-Kandy road this morning.

According to the Road Development Authority, this is the world’s fastest-built steel flyover, completed within 60 days.

The flyover has two tracks and is 325 meters long. It was built as a solution to the huge traffic jam that hits the road during office hours. The Rs. 2.1 billion project is just half of the total project, which includes another similar flyover at the same location. According to government sources, the second phase of the project begins in April.
