* Police thwarts Tamil Tiger abduction attempt on Ceylinco employee in Vavuniya

Mar 25, Vavuniya: Police personnel attached to Vavuniya police station yesterday rescued the Provincial Manager of Ceylinco Insurance group who was abducted by a group of Tamil Tigers.

Police rescued the victim within an hour after his abduction and also nabbed the 4 Tamil Tigers who were involved in the abduction.

Police said that seven members of Tamil Tigers’ pistol gang had abducted the victim when he was getting ready to leave after attending a wedding ceremony. Acting on the information a 10-member police team was deployed to rescue the victim.

Police also seized two motorbikes, a 9mm pistol and a hand grenade.
