Mar 24, Colombo: Constitutional Affairs Minister D.E.W.Gunasekera says that the government has taken number of steps to make an environment where people of all ethnicities can live in peace.

Minister Gunasekera said that there should be an attitude change to develop cooperation among different ethnicities. He made these comments delivering the key note address at the special summit on pluralism in South Asia held in the Mount Laviniya Hotel this morning.

In order to build ethnic harmony public sector employees are provided with the training to acquire proficiencies in the two official languages. Also, security forces personnel working in the North and the East are provided with a special training on the Tamil language, the Minister stressed. Specking at the summit Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohoana said that the government is committed to ensure democratic rights to the people living in the North and the East while a military solution has been sought to defeat terrorism.
