* Sri Lankan government allocates 7 million rupees to provide relief to flood victims

Mar 24, Colombo: Sri Lankan government has taken immediate steps to provide relief to the families distressed due to recent torrential rains and floods.

Ministry of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services says that it has already released 7.1 million rupees to provide relief to over 381,000 people in 10 districts in the Island.

According to the Ministry sources, 228 houses were completely destroyed and another 600 houses were partially damaged due to the floods and land slides during past few weeks. Also, 8 people were killed and 6 others suffered injuries due to these adverse weather conditions. The Ministry has opened up 6 welfare camps for the displaced.
