Friday, March 21, 2008, 2:57 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka government sources say that all political parties supportive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government are to contest in a united front for the upcoming provincial council election in the Eastern Province.

The parties including Jathika Hela Urumaya that contested under various signs at the last general election will list their candidates under the United Peoples’ Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Meanwhile, the sources said that the UPFA has decided to join with the anti Tamil Tiger political party TMVP led by former Tamil Tiger leader Karuna Amman. Also, the discussions are underway with the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) to have a similar agreement.
