Mar 20, Akurassa: Sri Lankan government Minister, Mahinda Wijesekara says that a comprehensive devolution of political power to the people in the North is a must to end the decade old ethnic strife in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at a ceremony held at Godapitiya Vidyalaya in Akurassa today, the Minister said that the the war alone will never be able to eliminate terrorism.

“War will only kill people, but it cannot kill the ideology that is why they (Tigers) are continuing to come with their belly bombs,” he said.

“We must be able to rescue them from Prabhakaran and to show them what the real liberty is. That is why we have to share the power,” he added.

He highlighted that there exists a golden opportunity for the country to end the present problem as India has expressed its fullest support to destroy terrorism, provided that an effective solution is reached for the legitimate grievances of Tamil people.

Referring to the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, the Minister said that however there are some people with some mental disorders who know nothing other than objecting to everything.
