* Sci-Fi legend, Arthur C. Clarke passes away in Sri Lanka

Mar 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka: Renowned science fiction writer, Sir Arthur C. Clarke has died on Wednesday at age 90 in his adopted country, Sri Lanka.

Clarke died at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday in a private hospital in Sri Lanka after having breathing problems, his aide Rohan De Silva said. His health has been deteriorating since last December and he was in and out of hospital, De Silva said.

Clarke, who lived in Sri Lanka since 1956, had debilitating post-polio syndrome since the 1960s and was confined to a wheel chair lately.

The legendary writer predicted the use of satellites for communications in the 60s. He has written numerous books and was most famous for the "2001: A Space Odyssey," which later became a hit movie.
