Mar 15, Colombo: Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka has appointed former Eastern Army Commander Major General Parakrama Pannipitiya, as the Director General of Security at Panagoda Army Cantonment with effect from Thursday, official sources said.
The appointment has been made after creating a new post by the Army Commander.
Last month, Major General Pannipitiya filed a fundamental rights (FR) case in the Supreme Court against the reduction of his security. He charged his security was seriously compromised by Army Commander, Lt. General Fonseka.
The Supreme Court issued an interim order allowing General Pannipitiya to continue using the staff quarters provided to him and also to retain vehicles and escorts as well.
