* Sri Lanka honours its fallen war heroes

June 07, Colombo: Sri Lanka honoured its fallen war heroes today in a ceremony presided by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka at the Parliament Complex.

The ‘Ranaviru Day’ is dedicated to pay tribute to the soldiers of the three armed forces and police who sacrificed their lives in the war ravaging the North for decades.

Main ceremony of the event was held at Battaramulla this evening where a tri-service and Police parade was staged. Distinguished guests included the Prime Minister, Secretary of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-Service Commanders, Inspector General of the Police, diplomats, parliamentarians, senior military officers and other VIPs.

The commemorations continued for a month starting from May 07 ended with the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the nation's heroes in front of the Parliamentary Complex.
