June 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's leading Marxist party, the People's Liberation Front (JVP), has named its Chief Minister candidates for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils, where elections are to be held shortly.

JVP trade union leader and national list MP Wasantha Samarasinghe is to resign from his parliamentary seat soon to lead the North Central Province nomination list.

Chameera Koswaththa, a leader of the JVP's student wing, has been named as the leader of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council team.
