July 06, Colombo: A MiG-27 fighter aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) skidded off the runway at the Katunayake Air Force Base this evening due to a problem with the landing wheel.

The SLAF said that after an air raid on a high profile LTTE gathering point in Vaddakachchi in the Kilinochchi district at 3.30 PM today, the air craft had landed at the Katunayake Air Force runway but skidded off due to a technical problem with the landing gear.

The pilot was immediately evacuated and unhurt, the Air Force said.
