* Sri Lanka President appoints special committee to resolve health sector employees issues

July 05, Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed a special committee to look into the employee related issues of Sri Lanka's public health sector which is plagued with trade union actions and regular conflicts among employees.

The committee headed by Lionel Fernando, Chairman of the Salary Anomalies Commission, will look into various issues that have arisen in the health sector including salary anomalies and submit recommendations for the resolution of those issues.

The committee also includes an Additional Secretary (representing the Secretary to the President), the Director General of the Management Services Department (representing the Secretary of Treasury), and representatives of the Secretaries of Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition.

According to the government sources, the committee is required to submit a full report within three months to the President on the issues pertaining to the health sector as well as recommendations towards resolving problems
