July 05, Colombo: Sri Lanka Board of Investment (BoI) recently signed 3 agreements with investors for new ventures.
Gemted (Private) Limited signed an agreement for a project to establish a training institute to teach cutting and polishing of gems for export. BOI Chairman Dhammika Perera signed the agreement on behalf of the BOI and formally presented the investor with the BOI Certificate of Registrations.
The training institute to be established in Beruwela with a cost 250,000 dollars and expects to provide employment for 50 persons. The institute will offer an International Diploma in Gemology from Batisseurs d’Espoir, a French Association from Dijon in combination with the Training Institute in Saumur in France. The Diploma will be awarded after successful completion of a one year training programme which expects to provide training for girls aged 16 to 18 from low income groups.
The BOI also signed two agreements with Spring Global Services and Tacwear. BOI Chairman signed the agreement on behalf of the BOI. Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Minister Sarath Amunugama formally presented the investor with the BOI Certificate of Registrations.
The agreement signed with Spring Global Services is for a project to provide IT enabled services for local and export market. The venture will supply IT enabled services to large and established clients in UK and US. The company also expects to provide their services to emerging clients in South Asia. The venture sponsored by Lanka Product Trading is an investment of 330,000 dollars. This will create around 20 employment opportunities and will be located in Colombo.
Tacwear (Private) Limited signed an agreement for a project to manufacture garments for export. The venture will manufacture high end garments for athletes. This project, an investment of one million dollars is expected to generate employment opportunities for a workforce of 160. The manufacturing plant located at Mahara will commence commercial operations this month using local and exported materials. The manufactured garments will be exported to markets in the US and Europe.
