* Sri Lanka to hold Provincial Council elections on August 23

July 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka today announced that the elections for the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils will be held on the 23rd of August. Acceptance of nominations for the elections concluded at 12 noon today.

Main political parties including UPFA, UNP, JVP, and several independent groups have already submitted their nominations for the two provincial polls. The breakaway Marxist party, NFF however would not contest the polls this time.

In the North Central Province, Anuradhapura district will have 24 candidates and Polonnaruwa district will have 13 candidates. Ratnapura and Kegalle districts which come under Sabaragamuwa Province will have 27 and 21 candidates respectively.
