July 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka Marxist Party, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) backed National Trade Union Centre today signed an unusual agreement with Sri Lanka Private bus Owners' association to carryout a joint strike agitation against the government in the future.
Chairman of the SLPBOA, Gamunu Wijesooriya speaking at a press conference said that successive governments have failed to solve the problems faced by the private bus owners for years.
He said that some governments had even acted against the court orders given in favour of private bus owners. He added that the association has come to a decision to take stern action against the government but without disturbing the commuters as well as the private bus owners.
Speaking at the same media briefing chairman of the NTUC, JVP MP KD Lal Kantha told media that his trade union has decided to fight for the rights of the businessmen of the SLPBOA. He said that the businessmen have agreed to support future strike agitations organized by the NTC against the government.
