July 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Buddhist political party, Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) is reported to have influenced President Mahinda Rajapaksa to accept the resignation letter of the Treasury Secretary, Dr. P.B. Jayasundara.
According to media reports, JHU criticizing Jayasundara’s unprofessional conduct of selecting investors in privatisation of the Lanka Marine Services said the Supreme Court has ordered the Dr. P.B. Jayasundara who was the then head of Public Enterprise Reforms Commission (PERC) to pay Rs. 500,000 from his personal money.
“He is punished by the Supreme Court and needs to be evicted from such high caliber positions,” JHU was quoted.
The Supreme Court has ordered Jayasundara to pay Rs. 500,000, the highest ever compensation in a fundamental rights case, after finding him guilty of having concealed facts to the Cabinet and being party to an act of massive corruption.
Last week, Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna party also insisted that Jayasundara should resign from his post.
