July 29, Colombo: Tamil Tigers launched a heavy artillery attack at Sri Lankan troops manning the Muhamalai defence line in Jaffna this morning, the military said.
Military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the Tigers have fired about 10 rounds of heavy artillery at troops between 6 to 6.30 am. Two soldiers have sustained injuries due to the attack, he further said. He added that Tigers have used their guns located in the Poonaryn area for the attack.
Tamil Tigers recently announced 10-day unilateral cease-fire from July 27 in view of the SAARC summit which is currently being held in Sri Lanka. However, they threatened to take defensive actions if they were attacked during the ceasefire.
Sri Lanka government rejected the truce saying that it would only go for a ceasefire when the Tigers agree to lay down their arms.
