July 26, Anuradhapura: United National Party chief ministerial candidate for the North Central province, retied Major General Janaka Perera yesterday asked the government why it cannot provide him with the same security given to Eastern Provincial Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillyan and to TMVP leader Karuna Amman.
Addressing a media briefing in Anuradhapura he made his personal security issue as the main propaganda weapon against the government.
“Now, if the government can give two armed vehicles and 100 soldiers to Karuna and Pillyan who had brutally massacred 600 innocent police personnel, Muslim and Sinhala people, why it cannot give the same to me, who had fought honestly for the country risking my life,” retired General asked.
Major General Perera said that one of the government ministers had questioned whether a war hero like him is afraid that he is wailing for so much of his personal security.
“It is not because I am afraid. I ask for security, because I have a threat from Tamil Tigers, Pillyan group and another party that tries to work under others’ account,” he added implying that he is having a threat from the government too.
