* Sri Lanka to revive cement production in North

July 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka plans to recommence cement production at the Kankesanturai Cement Factory in Jaffna Peninsula after selecting a suitable investor to form a joint venture with the Sri Lanka Cement Corporation (SLCC) and Lanka Cement Limited (LCL).

A proposal submitted by the Minister of Industrial Development Kumara Welgama in this regard was approved by the Cabinet today.

Two cement manufacturing plants belonging to the state-owned SLCC and LCL have remained closed since 1990 due to the on going ethnic conflict. The two factories are in area now controlled by the security forces.
