July 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition, the United National Party (UNP) yerterday made an open invitation to the public and all democratic political parties to unite as one front against the government's election malpractices.
Speaking at a media briefing today, UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake said that the government is trying to win the upcoming provincial council elections by frightening, threatening and stopping the voters from casting their votes.
“At this moment the public should be vigilant about this matter. So, we are asking the public to get together as one country and all democratic political parties should get together and put an end to the activities,” he said.
He added, that his party is making an open invitation to the public as well as the political parties to unite as one front shedding their differences and to work towards defeating the government’s recreant program.
