* Sri Lanka Parliament passes another 2.88 billion rupees as SAARC expenses

July 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Parliament yesterday passed an additional amount of 2.880 billion rupees for the expenses of 2008 SAARC summit which is to be held in the country next week. The proposal was made by Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.

During yesterday’s session the government also declared its stance over the Tamil Tigers unilateral declaration of ceasefire in view of the SAARC summit.

Health Minister Nimal Siripala addressing the parliament said that the Tamil Tigers would not be able to take the government for a ride again. He said that it is essential for Tamil Tigers to lay down their arms before having any discussion with the government.
