July 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Minister of Construction and former anti war campaigner Rajitha Senarathne today said that all powers vested with provincial councils by the 13th amendment to the constitution must be given their full force for the country to move forward as one nation.
Speaking at a press briefing the Minister said that solutions for the current issues in administering provincial councils can be easily found if the democratically elected Tamil leaders are fully empowered to carry out their work.
Minister Senarathne said that incompetence of southern leaders to take the correct decision at the right time has always disappointed and disheartened the democratic Tamil political leaders.
“It was under these circumstances that the Eastern Provincial Council was established,” he said.
“If we betray these democratic Tamil leaders who have fought against Tamil Tigers and keep their feet in the leadership of the south, the full benefit will got to none other than the Tamil Tigers themselves,” he said.
