Sri Lanka::
* Sri Lanka Minister says government not ready to accept LTTE’s latest unilateral ceasefire
Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 18:42 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 22, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government today rejected the LTTE’s latest announcement declaring a ten-day unilateral ceasefire during the forthcoming SAARC summit.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told parliament that the government is not ready to accept any ceasefires.

“We are not ready to accept the latest offer as it would breathe ‘oxygen’ to the LTTE,” the Minister said.

He said that the government has several experiences over the LTTE’s earlier such offers.

”We lost our intelligence officers by entering into ceasefire with the LTTE in the past,” the Minister said adding that “it would not happen again.”

The LTTE last night announced a ten-day unilateral ceasefire in view of the SAARC summit.
