July 19, Colombo: The Society for the Protection of the Heritage and Culture in Sri Lanka's hill town, Kandy is protesting the state's move to install a fountain in the Kandy Lake (Bogambara weva).
The organization has pointed out that fountains are only meant to be used in ponds and not in large water areas such as Kandy Lake.
State has already installed fountain in Kandy Lake in 1987. The organization says that it is also an unbefitting erection for a heritage site.
The organization points out that Kandy is a Heritage City and the Kandy Lake is a national treasure. Changing the natural surrounding of the historical city is not in the interest of Kandy and its historical nature, the organization says.
