July 19, Colombo: Troops pushing ahead of battlefronts in embattled northern Sri Lanka killed 19 Tamil Tiger rebels in fresh fighting, the military said.
Defense authorities said seven Tigers were killed in confrontations with troops along the Welioya front. Four soldiers were also injured in the battle.
In fierce fighting in Vavuniya, 9 Tigers were killed and another 12 received injuries, Media Center for National Security said. Four soldiers also suffered injuries while a body of a soldier reported missing on Friday (18) was recovered by the troops.
Meanwhile three Tigers were killed in Jaffna during confrontations with the soldiers on Friday (18).
