* Strict election law imposed in Sri Lanka

July 17, Colombo: Election Commissioner said today his department will continue to impose strict ruling during the forthcoming Provincial Council Elections in Sri Lanka.

According to reports, the section 74.1 of the Election Ordinance interprets the places where candidates could display their posters and other campaign material which will be monitored closely. The police will be mobilised to remove such material displayed at places other than the candidates’ political offices.

Elections to Provincial Councils in North Central Province and Sabaragamuwa Province will be hold on August 23.
