Sunday, July 13, 2008, 15:57 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

July 13, Colombo: The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP), the political party formed by ex Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka's Eastern province has nominated Batticaloa mayor Sivageetha Prabhakaran to the All Party Representative Committee (APRC).

The APRC which was set up to discuss issues pertaining to the resolution of the ethnic conflict in the North and East is to meet next week after a long hiatus, says the government sources.

According to the sources the APRC did not meet last month because the Jathika Hela Urumaya and Mahajana Eksath Peramuna suspended their participation pending the accommodation of the TMVP in the committee.

The sources citing APRC Chairman Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana says that he is in the view that the activities of the Committee will be accelerated as the committee now has representatives reflecting almost the entire spectrum of political views in the country.
