* Police nabs a criminal gang in Negombo connected to Tamil Tigers

July 12, Negombo: Sri Lanka Police have arrested five members of a gang wanted for number of crimes committed in the Negombo area along with their weapons.

The suspects have revealed to the police that Tamil Tigers had sold them a T-56 riffle for 50,000 rupees. Police further said that the suspects have revealed details of many crimes planned by them including house thefts, abductions, and ransom taking.

Four of the suspects were residents of Kimbulapitiya while the other was from Mawathagama, police added. The suspects were further remanded until July 25 by the Negombo Magistrate when they were produced before him last evening.
