Jan 04, Colombo: Death toll of the Wednesday bomb blast at Slave Island, Colombo has risen to five as one of the injured succumbed to his injuries at the Colombo National Hospital today.
Army Second Lieutenant D.M.S.K. Dissanayake died this morning at the neurological intensive care unit of the hospital.
Suspected Tamil Tigers carried out an indiscriminate bomb attack opposite the Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Slave Island, on last Wednesday (02) morning. The bomb targeted the civilians and an army bus carrying disabled and sick soldiers.
Two soldiers and three civilians including a woman and two school boys of 16 and 14 years of age were killed in the incident. Also, 14 civilians and 9 army soldiers suffered injuries in the explosion. According to the hospital sources, three of the injured are still undergoing treatments at the Intensive care unit.
Police has deployed three special units to investigate the bomb attack. However, no conclusive information related to the incident has been unearthed so far, police sources said.
