Jan 31, Colombo: Two road accidents involving privately-owned public transport buses killed two people in separate accidents on the Colombo-Kataragama road yesterday.

A school child was killed when a private bus ran over him at Ranna, Wadigala in Tangalle while he was returning home after school. The victim was a grade two student of Netolpitiya Maha Vidyalaya. Following the accident a group of angry civilians set fire to the bus destroying it completely. The police arrested the driver of the bus.

In a similar accident on the same road, a disabled person was killed at Pallemalla in Hambanthota when a private bus ran over the motor tricycle that he had been riding. The driver of the bus was taken into police custody.
