* Thugs attack another journalist in Sri Lanka

Jan 29, Colombo: Suhaib Cassim, the associate editor of Sri Lanka Tamil Daily, Thinakaran was attacked by a group of thugs last night.

The journalist, the second media person that was attacked within a week is presently undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. According to the hospital sources, the victim has suffered serious cuts all over his body.

A group of five gangsters roamed the house of Mr. Cassim at Maligawatte flats last night and attacked him with sharp weapons, said the police.

Mr.Cassim is an employee of the state owned newspaper company Lake House. Informed sources say that his work had agitated some corrupted politicians in the government.

Lal Hemanatha Nawalage, a news director in the state owned TV station, Rupavahini came under a similar attack two days ago. The government has come under severe criticism for its inability to take any action against the attacks on media people.
