Sri Lanka::
* Sri Lanka will not allow marketing reps of pharmaceutical companies to operate in state institutions
Tuesday, January 1, 2008, 15:02 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health has issued a circular prohibiting marketing representatives of private pharmaceutical companies to operate in government medical institutions.

According to ministry sources, marketing representatives, commonly known as “medical reps”, are not allowed to enter government institutions for business purposes from today onwards. The circular holds the head of the institution responsible in case of such entry.

Pharmaceutical companies are widely criticized for influencing medical doctors to promote their products, which are often sold at extremely unreasonable prices.
