Feb 05, Colombo: Sri Lankan Air Force fighter jets bombed a LTTE target today successfully while heavy fighting on the ground between security forces and the Tigers killed 20 rebels and two soldiers in the restive north, the military said.
Air Force fighter jets bombed an administration and operations co-coordinating center of the LTTE in the northern Kilinochchi district this morning. Air Force spokesman Andy Wijesuriya said the pilots confirmed that the air strike was a total success.
Meanwhile in separate ground battles in Vavuniya and Mannar, troops killed 20 Tigers yesterday, the Media Center for National Security said. Two soldiers were reported killed and two were injured in a separate incident in the same area.
Fighting has intensified in the north since the Sri Lankan government has decided to eliminate the terror outfit militarily. Observers say the Tigers are resorting to more attacks on civilians in desperation.
