* PAFFREL files fundamental rights case on eastern Sri Lanka poll

Feb 28, Colombo: The People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) today filed a fundamental rights petition calling for free and fair elections in the Batticaloa district after disarming armed groups.

They cite 35 respondents including the Defence Ministry Secretary, the Minister of Local Government, the Elections Commissioner, and the Inspector General of Police.

PAFFREL also wants the invalidation of votes at polling centres if vote-rigging and other malpractices are reported.
