* War on terror will never be used to curb labor rights, says Sri Lanka President

Feb 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa says his government will not curb labor rights despite the present war on terror.

He points out that the government, while engaged in a war against terrorism, has been promoting labor rights at large. The President made this comment at a ceremony to felicitate veteran trade union leaders today at the Presidential Secretariat.

At the ceremony, the President paid tribute to 10 veteran trade union leaders who have each devoted over 50 years of their lives to the cause of the working people. The trade union leaders that were felicitated were Alavi Moulana, K.A.E. Britto, James Kariyawasam, D.M. Jayasinghe, Wimalasiri de Mel, O.A. Ramiah, S. Siriwardane, P.L.S. Perera, Bala Thampo and M.S. Sellasamy.
