Feb 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened the longest Tunnel in Sri Lanka at
Ramboda yesterday (Feb 23, 2008).
The 225 meter long Ramboda Tunnel has been constructed at a cost of 2 billion rupees as an alternative to
the Ramboda Pass. The Tunnel was built with funds from the Japanese government preserving the scenic value
of the surrounding environment.
Highways Development Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and Japanese Ambassador Kiyoshi Araki were present
at the opening ceremony of the Ramboda Tunnel along with other government officials.
