* Civilians protest in Vavuniya town against restriction of movement
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 2:37 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 12, Vavuniya: Civilians in the Vavuniya town yesterday organized a protest campaign against restrictions imposed by the security forces on the civilian and vehicle movements from the North to the South.

For a week time the vehicles coming from the Tamil Tiger dominated areas in the North were not allowed to proceed to the southern part of the country.

All shops, government offices, and banks were kept closed and the daily activities came to a standstill due to the protest. Also, the hospital staff in the area staged a symbolic strike.
