* Sri Lanka Supreme Court allows use of loudspeakers at mosques
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 2:35 GMT, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 11, Colombo: Panel of justices headed by the Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva today allowed the mosques to use loudspeakers for prayers for three minutes.

The Supreme Court made this order when it looked into a case related to the restriction of loudspeakers from 10.p.m to 6.a.am. The Supreme Court banned using loudspeakers in November 2007.

Having considered a request made by an Islamic organization, the Court allowed the mosques to use loudspeakers for 5 sessions of 3 minutes duration per day.
