Dec 04, Colombo: Former Minister and the national organizer of the main opposition United National Party, S.B. Dissanayake yesterday filed a rights petition challenging the Election Commissioner's decision declaring that he is disqualified to be an elector at a presidential or parliamentary elections for seven years.
In his petition S.B Dissanayake pointed out that according to the Election Commissioner’s decision he could not contest an election until December 7, 2011.
Following the Supreme Court ruling on December 07, 2004 the Election Commissioner had taken a decision to cut down his election rights, Dissanayake further added.
He urged the Supreme Court to cancel the Election Commissioner’s decision and allow him to contest the upcoming elections.
