Dec 04, Colombo: Following a series of discussions Sri Lankan doctors who stayed away from work in the hospitals of the North and East from November 17, left Colombo today to resume their medical activities in the troubled regions.
Dr. Wimal Jayanth, Deputy Director of the Health Ministry said 120 doctors left Colombo this morning after government promised to strengthen their security.
Health Department provided special transport services to the doctors to travel to their destinations.
The doctors who left Colombo are scheduled to work in the hospitals of Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Ampara, Trincomalee, Kalmunai, and Akkareipaththu areas.
The doctors took union action to withdraw from the hospitals in the region following the murder of Medical Superintendent of the Vavunathivu Hospital, Batticaloa, Dr. Palitha Padmakumara.
